RC Model Ships -- Should You Build Your Own?

If you've had some experience building model ships and are ready for a new and exciting challenge, consider venturing into the world of RC model ships. RC stands for remote control and adds a new dimension to model building. Remote controlled boats are actually able to be driven on water, which you certainly can't do with that scale model sitting on your shelf. As you can imagine, building an RC boat is going to be more complex than building a traditional model.Complex, but achievable with the right parts and instructions.

You will need to find a good model ships R/C supplier, preferably one where the staff has some knowledge of building remote control boats. That is, unless you want to purchase one already assembled. If you don't have the time or inclination to build your own boat, this can be a good option. Buying an assembled RC boat means you can go straight from the store to the water with no hard work necessary. Some people do prefer building their own, because they find the process fun and find a greater satisfaction using a boat they made themselves.

There are some kits on the market that allow you to build one of these ships using step by step plans. With a kit, everything you need is usually included and there's no guesswork because the instructions tell you what to do. Building a RC model is something that parents and older children can enjoy together. One thing you may find is that some kits don't include the remote control or power supply. This is usually because different builders have different preferences when it comes to selecting between electric, battery and gas powered boats.

RC model ships are great for anyone who has access to a body of water such as a lake or pond. There are many different types of remote controlled boats available. Some examples include speed boats, sailboats, air boats, deep-V hull boats, and racing boats. You can browse these models at specialty hobby stores and even online. Ebay can be a great place to find rare items, often at competitive prices. Of course, this will depend on how sought after the item is and how many bidders are competing for it. If you do choose to buy R/C items on Ebay just make sure you deal with a reputable seller who has a history of positive feedback.
